My Gizmo Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Like probably most of you, I spend many hours a day working in my office, completely involved with my # 1 gadget in the world (my laptop), making or getting calls from clients through my # 2 gadget (my cell) , while listening to music through my # 3 gadget in life (internet radio music on SoundFreak) to fit or lift my mood perfectly and gently.

I realized the other day that, not only do I require my lovely “toys” to make a living, but I genuinely and thoroughly ENJOY and appreciate them for all they enable me to do, without killing my real social life.   This week’s necklace is not a literal expression of my gizmos in life. They’re meant to be a colorful expression of how my heart sees these rectangular-ish friends right this moment.

(Don’t ask me how I’ll see them later this week when I’ll need them for some stressful projects on hand 😉 !).

May you all have a lovely day at the office, or whichever physical place engages your creativity, efforts and love wherever you are.

Dulzura – Necklace

[tab title=”Story and Inspiration”]

This is my first necklace in a long while.  This colorful and sweet piece was mostly an exercise of getting “comfy” with polymer clay again, after all this time apart.

After going through one of the most challenging and important years of my life in 2011,  the urge of making beautiful jewelry again seems a natural manifestation of feeling not only like “myself” again, but feeling like a better version of me (if I dare say).  The appetite for creating grew slowly but surely over the last few weeks, and suddenly I knew it was time 🙂

The inspiration for the “Dulzura-Necklace”  crystalized not through my eyes, but through my sweet tooth this time.  Most afternoons, my husband and I take a 15-minute tea or coffee break together, always with something deliciously sweet to share.  Last week as we visited a new bakery in town, I was trying to decide what kind of cookie I wanted, and as the girl at the counter turned to the left to show me their cookie-menu, I saw it: The most beautiful display of palette-colored cakes. I couldn’t believe the artistic expression of their maker.  It made me literally melt and acknowledge instantly that baking (of this level) is just an Art as anything we see in museums.

This is my humble celebration of those of you who share this amazing talent . . . or my sweet tooth 😉

Much love to you all!

Inspired by Fashion…conceived as Art – Bracelet

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

This simple but lovely bracelet could not be a better example of VeruDesigns’s motto and trademark. After I finished a detailed, complex but meaningful necklace last week, I felt like going back to simplicity, texture and color, and . . .Voila!

Have lovely weekend everybody.

Rebirth – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

As an artist I love butterflies for many reasons, but never before did I identify with them as much as I do now. The life of butterflies is the most beautiful analogy I can think of when it comes to our lives: We’re born, we grow, it takes us a while to get comfortable in our skin but we learn to accept it. Then change happens. Call it age, call it parenthood, call it disruption, call it loss, CHANGE.   Butterflies somehow know that change is good. Change challenges us and (if we allow it) removes our scars, our old believes, our assumptions and make us see life through the same lenses of our childhood again, when we knew that we could be, do and have it all.  The brave ones who dare to not only hope but BELIEVE this view of their lives go into a journey of inspiring re-invention of themselves, a journey that turns them into beautiful butterflies who leave their pupa behind, right in front of our eyes for all to see.

I created this necklace as a way of embracing our own re-births in life, and as a gift to an amazing woman who is going through her own rebirth at the moment.

Much love to you all.

Prototype – Bolivian Sampoña Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Fall is in the air in this part of the world!

After a beautiful (and very hot!) summer, the leaves are starting to fall and a lovely breeze is setting in. I love summer, but change is in our DNA and as much as I enjoy the lively, strong and very happy colors of summer, I find myself drawn to the gorgeous greens, olives, browns, oranges and purples of fall.

This necklace is only a prototype of what I’ve called the “Bolivian Sampoña Necklace”. Inspired by the bolivian wind-instrument whose sounds are a perfect match to the chill and warmth of fall.

I’d love to hear what you think. I’m thinking about creating a whole set based on this very basic but unique design, in all kinds of wonderful color combinations!

I’m so happy to be back 🙂

Happy Days! – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Summer is such a beautiful time for many reasons, but no more than this year. I have a lovely corner office with an amazing view of center city Philadelphia. Over the last few weeks I’ve come to love watching women of all shapes, ages and sizes walk down Market Street showing off their gorgeous unique styles. So much color and so much inspiration!

This necklace is for you, lovely women on the street, who care not what we think but walk on the beat of your own inspiration and personality.

The Nameless-Necklace: Playing with Colors and Patterns

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

This was one of those rare times of contradicting feelings, where I just knew I wanted to make something, but the inspiration of “what” didn’t flow through me.

I could’ve ignored the urge of playing with clay as I normally do when no clear inspiration showers me, but I decided to simply play.

This is a nameless necklace. . . my excuse to play with colors and patterns. Colors are powerful to me. They literally lighten my heart up, and in doing so, this necklace served its purpose 😉

Fairy Tales – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

I’ve come to know that happiness in life is a choice, it’s not circumstantial, it’s not a matter of luck or chance, it is something we consciously choose to be and have.

I’m slowly becoming a more active participant in making happiness be and happen in my life, and jewelry making has not only been a life-giving expansive experience, but it puts me in a state of “flow”, a state of allowing happiness to flow through me.

Creating this necklace and now just looking at it, makes me feel joy instantly. It is a close physical expression of the “feeling” it ignites in me. I promise that when you wear it, you will believe in Fairy Tales.

Enchanted – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

The last three months of my life have been filled with an enormous desire and pursuit for those precious moments of happiness that make you smile inside and outside, all at once. These instants of crystallized enjoyment not only energize me, but fill my heart with pure love. Creating this necklace was simply an exercise of creating happiness. The best word that describes what I felt when I finished this piece is “Enchantment”. I’m not sure if this is how you will feel when you see it, but something about these delicious colors and fun patterns, shapes did that for me. So, go ahead…and be enchanted!

Brave, Bold and Obvious – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Miuccia Prada is not only an amazing italian fashion designer, but she is someone whose collections never cease to surprise. Not always do I love her creations, but I have to say that her Spring 2011 collection did resonate with me in many ways.
“Brave, Bold and Obvious” is how Miuccia described her latest collection, and this is how I have named this wonderful tribute-necklace…the second piece of my new “Chris, Kitty & Nino” set of necklaces. ENJOY!

Note: We worked with our beautiful model “Vanessa” for this photoshoot. Besides going to college, dancing ballet and having fun, she is also a chocolatier. If you love chocolates like I do, make sure to visit her fan page in facebook (Chocolates Vanela)!
