Enchanted – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

The last three months of my life have been filled with an enormous desire and pursuit for those precious moments of happiness that make you smile inside and outside, all at once. These instants of crystallized enjoyment not only energize me, but fill my heart with pure love. Creating this necklace was simply an exercise of creating happiness. The best word that describes what I felt when I finished this piece is “Enchantment”. I’m not sure if this is how you will feel when you see it, but something about these delicious colors and fun patterns, shapes did that for me. So, go ahead…and be enchanted!

Handmade Bolivian Leather and Textile – Handbags

Let me start out by saying that I’m NOT the artist who made these gorgeous 100% handmade Bolivian leather Handbags, but I’m a HUGE fan to say the least, and own a couple of them. These two handbags were made by a wonderful Indigenous woman from the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is an “Artesana”, who prides herself in her beautiful craft. This is an experimental try-out, to see if folks love them as much as I do, and if this is the case, I’ll do my best to become a channel (through Veru Designs) to introduce her works to whomever is curious to see and buy what she has to offer.
Enjoy!

Brave, Bold and Obvious – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Miuccia Prada is not only an amazing italian fashion designer, but she is someone whose collections never cease to surprise. Not always do I love her creations, but I have to say that her Spring 2011 collection did resonate with me in many ways.
“Brave, Bold and Obvious” is how Miuccia described her latest collection, and this is how I have named this wonderful tribute-necklace…the second piece of my new “Chris, Kitty & Nino” set of necklaces. ENJOY!

Note: We worked with our beautiful model “Vanessa” for this photoshoot. Besides going to college, dancing ballet and having fun, she is also a chocolatier. If you love chocolates like I do, make sure to visit her fan page in facebook (Chocolates Vanela)!

Palta’s Love – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

This is the first piece of my new “Chris, Kitty & Nino” Collection. Just like living food, it was a life-giving labor of love…It’s great to be back!

One of my favorite weekly rituals is going every Monday morning to the “Reading Terminal Market” in Philadelphia to shop for our fresh local veggies and fruits for the week. When this necklace was commissioned to create something inspired by the beauty and nurturing gifts of living food, REAL food; our local Farmers Market, as well as the “Palta” became my muses for the design of this lovely necklace.

Palta is how avocados are known by its Quechuan name, the native Incas language currently still spoken mainly in Bolivia.  As a Bolivian and Palta lover myself, this is my humble homage to the “apple of the Andes” -as we also call them- and the garnishing gifts they provide to our souls and bodies.

Bounty Garden – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

Beauty is such an abstract subject to describe. One day while watching Mrs. Obama (on TV)  gardening in the White house, surrounded by children and looking gorgeous as always, suddenly “beauty” became clear and easy to articulate: Healthy and Happy in the inside…Beautiful in the outside.

This necklace attempts to convey not only beauty, but is very much inspired by the gorgeous Garden in the White House, and the wonderful health and joy that a “bounty garden” -no matter how small or large- can bring into everyone’s heart, mind and body.

Lime in Summertime – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

For those of you who know me personally, it may be no surprise that I’m finally creating my first jewelry series inspired by Michelle Obama.  She has been a constant inspiration in many ways for me, and this is my humble tribute to an amazing woman.

The colors I chose for this first necklace were inspired by a particular outfit she wore recently.  But the design decisions resulted from my pursuit of trying to create something  simple, yet happy, beautiful and alive; which are all traits exuded by Mrs. Obama whenever I see her.

Wisdom of a Bee – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

A few days ago I found the perfect spot in a park to take pictures among a variety of gorgeous flowers.  Unfortunately, a bee got there before me and made sure to let me know that there was no space for two!  I found it odd that it spent all its time enjoying the pollen of the smallest flower of the bunch, especially considering that right next to it was the largest and most beautiful flower of them all.  I later found out that the bee was quite wise in its choice. The flower she picked was exactly the one that needed some pollinating!

Tiny Creatures – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

I was struck by the beauty of tiny creatures in the microscopic universe: particles, bacteria, viruses, etc.  Each of the five “bulbs” in this necklace are inspired by a handful of these strangely beautiful creatures, in an effort to make this invisible world VISIBLE to the human eye. Enjoy!

Coral Madness – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

In Cape Cod, Massachusetts, you’ll see a lot of “Nantucket Red”, which to me looks like the color “Coral”. Well, since a recent trip to this beautiful part of the world, I’ve become rather obsessed with this color.

When I saw this beautiful picture of a tastefully decorated living-room featuring neutral, earthy/rustic textures, accented by my now favorite color “coral”, I just had to have a nice piece of that…and here it is: Coral Madness!

Pineapple – Necklace

[galleria width=”900″ height=”600″]

“What are they?” is usually the first questions I get asked when people see this necklace.

Something happy, something potentially yummy and definitely super fun to wear! Inspired by the textures of deliciously juicy tropical pineapples, arranged in a semi-circle, this whimsical abstraction is my latest summer treat of the week!
